mentally ill people - and yeah, even (especially!) those who are sick in what you think of as The Crazy Way - are not more dangerous than people without mental illnesses. it’s not ambiguous. it’s not a matter of debate

how then do you justify using slurs that paint mentally ill people as dangerous

how do you justify it when mentally ill people are two and half to four times more likely to be the victims of violent crime than average

how do you justify it when mentally ill people are at an elevated risk for domestic violence and abuse

how do you justify it when mentally ill people are almost universally the subjects of ridicule or fearmongering in popular media

how do you justify it when mentally ill people are massively more likely to be unemployed and/or homeless than people without mental illnesses

how do you justify it when mentally ill people are coerced and abused by the professionals who are supposed to help them

how do you justify it when mentally ill people are afraid to seek help at all because of social stigma

how do you justify it when these aren’t just suspicions but observable facts

how the FUCK do you justify it

…I was absolutely in love with this post until at the very end when they call all of them “bad girls” and it occurs to me that the majority of them are. is it a coincidence that the already sparse females of color in action, fantasy, and sci-fi are also “bad” girls?

The text is from MIA’s song “Bad Girls”. MIA was using ‘bad girls’ in a very context-specific and self-aware way that comes from being a woman of color in a white heteropatriarchy where our bodies are always Othered and both defeminized and hypersexualized. It’s a term that centralizes the subjective realities of WOC.

In short, it’s a term for WOC, by a WOC, and therefore not something that can be absorbed or explained by white mainstream feminsim.

Secret Agents AU — in which John Cho is the CIA’s top field agent but after a couple of years and watching too many people die he’s become jaded and stubborn. The director has decided that what he needs is a partner who’s young, smart and full of fresh ideas. So he gets Steven Yeun, the CIA’s top trainee, an overachiever with test scores off the charts but no real world experience. John has a way of getting things done, he doesn’t need to think because he just knows, which means he has absolutely no time for babysitting. Steven may be a little sloppy during missions to start but he’s able to think on his feet and come up with things that John never would. John thinks Steven is just some snot-nosed kid Steven thinks John should be about ready to retire. The two have a lot to teach each other but can they get past their differences and learn?
