I always try to play characters who are very different from what I am. If the character was a good swimmer or a diver, I’d be interested because in my real life, I am totally scared of water. I would immediately feel compelled to do it because I’m always trying to tackle any fear I have. I don’t want my life to be controlled by fear, whether it’s the fear of being rejected, fear of being loved; I want to run my life with open arms. Also, I never want to play the same character twice. To me, that’s soul crushing.

I got a shit ton of Anthony Mackie because he was only filming for about 2 scenes and for the rest he was loitering in front of the house. And I didn’t have anything else to do while I was sitting there, so I took a lot of pictures of him.

I’ve always wanted to do a female buddy film, the kind the guys get to do. This didn’t have anything to do with getting a guy, and it didn’t involve shoe shopping. It was about two human beings who are great at what they do struggling to gain the other’s acceptance. I’d seen Bridesmaids, and I said, “If Melissa McCarthy wants to work with me …”

Life Before Photoshop -1950

Bruce Mozert was renowned for being pretty innovative, coming up with underwater tricks to make these scenes seem as real as possible including using baking powder to create the powdery “smoke” coming out of the underwater barbecue.
